Accept PayPal Payments on Your Invoices

Connect PayPal to BillRyt and let clients pay your invoices via PayPal in 200+ countries. Works alongside Stripe and Paystack on the same invoice.

PayPal is best for international clients in markets where it is widely trusted — US, UK, EU, Canada, and Australia.

When Does PayPal Make Sense?

✅ Use PayPal when your client:

  • Is based in the US, UK, EU, Canada, or Australia
  • Specifically requests PayPal payment
  • Has a PayPal balance they want to use
  • Is an international freelancer or small business
  • Prefers PayPal over entering card details

💳 Consider Stripe or Paystack when:

  • Client is in Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, or South Africa
  • Client prefers to pay by card without PayPal
  • You want lower transaction fees
  • Client needs to pay in KES, NGN, GHS, or ZAR
  • You want M-Pesa or mobile money support

How to Connect PayPal

Takes about 10 minutes. You will need a PayPal Business account.

1

Create a PayPal Business account

You need a PayPal Business account to accept invoice payments. Personal accounts cannot receive business payments. Visit paypal.com to create or upgrade your account — it is free.

2

Get your PayPal API credentials

Log in to the PayPal Developer Dashboard at developer.paypal.com. Create a new App under My Apps & Credentials. Switch from Sandbox to Live mode. Copy your Client ID and Client Secret.

3

Connect PayPal in BillRyt settings

In your BillRyt account settings, go to Payment Gateways → PayPal. Paste the Client ID and Secret from the app you just created, then click Connect PayPal — BillRyt validates them immediately.

4

Send your first invoice

Send any invoice from BillRyt. Your client sees a PayPal button on the payment page alongside any other gateways you have connected. They click, pay, and — the moment they finish and return — the invoice updates to Paid automatically.

5

Reliability is handled for you

When you connect PayPal, BillRyt automatically registers a webhook on your PayPal app so a payment still confirms even if a client closes the tab before returning. Nothing to copy or configure in the PayPal Developer Dashboard — the normal pay-and-return flow and this backstop both work out of the box.

What Your Client Sees

When a client receives an invoice from you, they see a clean payment page with all connected payment options. If you have Stripe, Paystack, and PayPal connected — all three appear. The client picks what works for them. You get paid either way.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does BillRyt support PayPal?

Yes. BillRyt supports PayPal alongside Stripe and Paystack. Clients can pay invoices via PayPal in countries where PayPal is available.

Do my clients need a PayPal account to pay?

No. PayPal allows guest checkout with a card. Clients without a PayPal account can still pay using a credit or debit card through PayPal's guest checkout.

Which countries does PayPal support?

PayPal is available in 200+ countries and supports 25 currencies. It is particularly popular in the US, UK, EU, Canada, and Australia.

What are PayPal's transaction fees?

PayPal charges a percentage of the transaction plus a fixed fee. Rates vary by country and transaction type. Check paypal.com for current rates in your market.

Can I use PayPal and Stripe together on one invoice?

Yes. Connect both gateways in BillRyt and both payment options appear on every invoice automatically. Clients choose whichever is most convenient for them.

How quickly do PayPal payments reach my account?

Payments go to your PayPal balance instantly. Transferring to your bank account takes 1–3 business days depending on your country and bank.

Is PayPal right for my African business?

PayPal works in some African markets but has limitations — local bank withdrawals are restricted in several countries. For African clients, Paystack is usually the better choice. PayPal works well for international clients in markets where it is widely trusted (US, UK, EU).

How does automatic payment confirmation work?

The invoice is marked paid automatically the moment your client finishes paying and returns from PayPal — no manual reconciliation. When you connect PayPal, BillRyt also registers a webhook on your PayPal app for you as a backstop, so payments still confirm even where the client closes the tab before returning. Nothing to set up in the PayPal dashboard.

Is my PayPal account safe with BillRyt?

Yes. Your money never touches BillRyt — payments settle directly into your own PayPal account. Your PayPal credentials are encrypted and used only on our secure servers, never shown to your clients or their browser. Payments are captured and confirmed directly through PayPal's own API before an invoice is marked paid.
