Does BillRyt receive or hold my clients' payments?

No. BillRyt never receives, holds, or touches your clients' payments. When a client pays an invoice, the money goes directly from their card into your Stripe or Paystack account. BillRyt only initiates the transaction — it has no access to your funds and takes no cut of invoice payments.

Where does the money go when a client pays?

It goes directly into your Stripe or Paystack account — the account you connected in Settings → Gateways. From there it follows your normal payout schedule to your bank account. BillRyt is never in the money trail.

Does BillRyt charge a percentage of my invoice payments?

Accepted Answer

No. BillRyt charges a flat monthly subscription. There is no per-transaction fee, no percentage of revenue, and no fee on the money your clients pay you. Stripe and Paystack charge their own processing fees (typically 1.5–2.9% + a small fixed amount), but those go to the payment provider, not to BillRyt.

Why does BillRyt need two separate Stripe accounts?

BillRyt uses Stripe in two different ways. The platform subscription — your monthly BillRyt fee — is charged through BillRyt's own Stripe account. Invoice payments from your clients go through your own Stripe account, which you connect via Stripe Connect in Settings → Gateways. These are completely separate. BillRyt's subscription Stripe account never sees your client payments.

What is Stripe Connect and why do I need it?

Stripe Connect is Stripe's system for platforms to process payments on behalf of other businesses. When you connect your Stripe account to BillRyt, you are authorising BillRyt to initiate payment transactions on your behalf. The money still goes directly into your Stripe account — you retain full control. Without Stripe Connect, BillRyt cannot route your clients' card payments to you.

Does BillRyt use Paystack Subaccounts to split my payments?

No. BillRyt does not use Paystack Subaccounts or split payments. When you connect Paystack in BillRyt settings, you paste your own Paystack secret key. BillRyt uses that key to initiate payment transactions on your behalf — the full payment lands in your Paystack account. BillRyt takes no cut and receives nothing.

What does 'connecting Paystack' actually do?

Connecting Paystack means pasting your Paystack secret key into BillRyt's gateway settings. BillRyt stores this key securely and uses it to call Paystack's API when a client clicks Pay on their invoice portal. The transaction happens between your client and your Paystack account. BillRyt is the intermediary that initiates the request — not the recipient of the funds.

What inventory features does the Merchant plan include?

The Merchant plan includes a full product catalogue with SKU, barcode, category, cost price, and margin tracking. Volume pricing tiers apply automatically based on quantity. Stock deducts automatically when invoices are sent or packing lists are shipped. Low stock email alerts fire when products cross a reorder threshold. A complete stock movement ledger tracks every stock change with traceability to the source invoice or packing list. You can export your product catalogue, stock movement history, and invoice line items to CSV for accounting reconciliation.

All paid plans can export client data to CSV and download a Statement of Account as an Excel-compatible file per client. Merchant plan users can also export their full product catalogue (with pricing, margin, and stock levels), the complete stock movement ledger (every stock in/out with source reference), and all invoice line items (for accounting reconciliation). All paid plans can download a full account data ZIP from Settings → Export.

Yes — on the Agency and Merchant plans, BillRyt includes built-in accounting: a real double-entry ledger with Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, Trial Balance, Cash Flow, accounts payable, and VAT, on top of the invoicing, quotes, proformas, and payment collection it's known for. It is not a payroll or tax-filing service. Prefer your own accountant? You can still export everything to Xero, QuickBooks, Wave, or Sage, or connect via Zapier.

Agency and Merchant give you a real double-entry ledger — Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, Trial Balance, Cash Flow, accounts payable and VAT — built automatically from the invoices, payments and bills you already record, so you're not re-keying everything into a separate accounting app. It is not a payroll or tax-filing service, and if you'd rather keep your existing accountant you can export it all to QuickBooks, Xero, Wave or Sage.

What accounting reports does BillRyt produce?

On Agency and Merchant: Trial Balance, Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and a Cash Flow statement, plus a net-VAT summary (output tax minus input tax) and an accounts-payable view for supplier bills and expenses. Merchant adds inventory accounting — cost of goods sold and stock valuation. Every report reads from the same double-entry ledger, so your books always balance to the cent, and you can post manual adjusting journals and close a period when you're done reconciling.

Do I keep my books if I downgrade or cancel?

Accepted Answer

Yes — permanently. If you move off an accounting plan, posting new transactions stops, but read and export access to your existing ledger, reports and journals never expires. Losing access to your own books would be a compliance failure, so BillRyt keeps them viewable and exportable for as long as your account exists.

Can I use BillRyt without connecting a payment gateway?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can use BillRyt to create and send professional invoice PDFs, track payment status manually, and record offline payments (bank transfer, cash, mobile money). The payment gateway is optional — it just adds a Pay Now button to your client's invoice portal.

Is my data safe?

Accepted Answer

Yes. All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. BillRyt stores documents in Cloudflare R2 with server-side encryption. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt. Payment credentials are stored encrypted and are never logged. The platform passes HMAC signature verification on all incoming webhooks to prevent spoofing.
